This weekend I am going to review with you all the material that we learned in chapter 10 sections 1 and 2. Basically, all you need to know for this section is formulas. You also need to know your trig chart. You will be referencing back to the trig chart to plug into the trig formulas. Sections 1 and 2 are about addition and subtraction. Now to give you the formulas required for this section.
Formulas:
1.cos (alpha +/- beta) = cos (alpha) cos (beta) -/+ sin (alpha) sin (beta)
2. sin (alpha +/- beta) = sin (alpha) cos (beta) +/- cos (alpha) sin (beta)
3. sin x + sin y = 2 sin ((x + y)/(2) cos ((x-y)/(2)
4. sin x - sin y = 2 cos ((x+y)/(2) sin ((x-y)/(2)
5. cos x + cos y = 2 cos ((x+y)/(2) cos ((x-y)/(2)
6. cos x - cos y = -2 sin ((x+y)/(2) sin ((x-y)/(2)
7. tan (alpha + beta)= ((tan alpha + tan beta)/(1- tan alpha tan beta))
8. tan (alpha – beta)= ((tan alpha – tan beta)/(1+ tan alpha tan beta))
Example: Simplify cos 2x cos x + sin 2x sin x
• Cos (2x-x)
• Cos x
